BENEFITING: UROLOGY HEALTH FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 22, 2013
As some of you know and some may not, Chad was diagnosed with prostate cancer this past January. Yes, it was a huge shock especially since he's such a young whippersnapper, ha, well actually he is a little bit younger than the norm for having this cancer.
It's been quite a journey, but God is Great. He embraced Chad and our family to help us deal with this mess and that we did because Auburn baseball season had already begun and we had lots of life things to do. Chad was a trooper and a great patient. He did great with his surgery in February and is recovering remarkably!!! The road hasn't been easy, but Chad has handled it with such grace and fire! He never complained, never whined and never lost his positive attitude. He just dug in and has put the ball in the red zone. I think he's got it from here for the score! We also owe so much of this recovery to Chad's surgeon, Dr. Scott Tully, the DaVinci robot and the Urology Centers of Alabama. Wow, what a fantastic group of doctors and personnel. They have taken care of us every step of the way.
And this brings me to our fundraiser. Ironic enough, I have been a race director for the Talladega 21000 for the past 4 years. It's a half marathon, 5k and 1 mile fun run held at the Talladega Superspeedway on September 22. September is prostate cancer awareness month and the event benefits the Urology Health Foundation which is through the Urology Centers of Alabama. This awesome organization raises awareness of prostate cancer, provides free screenings and so many other services to under served men in Alabama who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. So, this is crazy that after 4 years of me being involved in this event, Chad is diagnosed with prostate cancer. Life is crazy like that.
I am hoping to raise $500 for the Urology Health Foundation and if you could help I would be most appreciative. I can't run the race for Chad since I'm one of the organizers, but if you could pledge $1 for every mile of the half marathon which totals $13, it will make a difference. And if you want to come out and walk/run one of the events for Team Chad, click here to register.
It's on a Sunday so ,no, it won't interfere with SEC football and if you've never actually walked on the Superspeedway Track, it's quite exciting. The banking at turn one is 33 degrees and it's fun to try and walk up it. Check out the event at www.talladegahalf.com. The post race party is the best with Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q. live music and all the cold beer you can drink!!!
And to all the men who will read this, PLEASE know what your PSA score is. If it's above 2.5 don't panic, but please see a specialist to make sure you are healthy.
Thank you in advance if you decide to donate! I'm so thankful Chad is healthy again and we have many, many years of fun times ahead!!! I love you Chad!
