Chad's fight for his life!
Organized by: Chad Cain
Eighteen years ago, at the invincible young high school age of 17, God blessed me beyond my wildest dreams... when he allowed an even more invincible College student, Chad Cain, to come into my life, and sweep me off my feet. Chad has dedicated his life to being a devoted Husband, and Father. He has worked hard over the last several years to provide for his family as an Office Manager. Last year, On Sunday, June 1, all of that would change. Chad, at the young age of 40, suffered a seizure at home while watching our children. One of our twin daughters immediately called 911 while watching her Dad convulse on the floor. He was rushed by ambulance to Doctors Hospital, where he was then life-flighted to Riverside hospital. After CAT Scans and an MRI, Chad was admitted to the Critical Care Unit where they focused on stabilizing his condition with anti-seizure drugs, and being able to give us a definitive diagnosis. Shortly after that, We were given the news that the test results revealed Three brain tumors. The biggest and only operable tumor, was about the size of a silver dollar. The two smaller tumors were considered inoperable, because they are too deep in the brain. They then told us, as well as the tumors located on his brain, the tests also discovered a spot on Chad's lung. Upon further diagnosis with a Bronchoscopy, it was determined to be Stage 4 Malignant Melanoma. They decided after these findings, to immediately operate on the largest Tumor in his brain. The goal for the other Two tumors, was to hopefully shrink them with intense radiation over the course of the next 10 weeks. In just a very short time since his diagnosis, Chad has gone from a high functioning, working husband and father, to a man who is reliant on me, his Wife, to care for his everyday needs. Chad must even sleep at an angle in a recliner we set up in our bedroom, as the remaining tumors put too much pressure on his head to lay completely flat. The dizziness, the headaches, the loss of balance, loss of function, all happened in a matter of weeks. However, Chad continues to fight! He continues to battle back everyday. His first round of treatment was Chemotherapy administered at home twice a day, seven days a week. After a few short months it was proven to be unsuccessful as Chad's MRI revealed a total of Six Tumors in all. It wasn't working... Chad decided to do some research on his own, and found a new type of chemo/immunotherapy that was proven to be effective in cases such as his own. He just started the first round of this new chemo a little over a month ago, and it seemed to be helping with minimal side effects after about Four days. However, In the past month His most recent MRI revealed a total of THIRTEEN Tumors now inside of his Brain. He will be undergoing intense Radiation every single day for the next Two weeks. I'm currently back to work, and because of this, our spend down on Chad's medical insurance has raised to $1700 a month. As much as I wish I could, I simply don't make enough money to afford that while trying to support a family of Five, on my income alone. We do not qualify for a medical card through the state, so we are trying to obtain financial aid through OSU so that he may continue with his treatment plan. However, It's not such an easy process! In the meantime, here is how you can help... We’re trying to raise as much as we can to cover Chad’s immediate medical costs for his biweekly chemotherapy, as well as upcoming radiation treatments, so that he doesn't have to stop treatment due to these new insane Insurance policies . Right now, in this moment.. we have a very uncertain future that lies ahead. With your help, we can concentrate on BEATING this Cancer, and spending as much time as we can, together as a family. Chad is fighting everyday. He is fighting for our 17 year old son who feels as though the weight of the world is now on his shoulders, as a young man... He is fighting for our Twin daughter's who have always been *Daddy's girls* and look at him every single day like he's Superman.... He is fighting for me, his wife, who although is completely overwhelmed with life right now, still remembers the *Invincible* young couple that first met, and decided to build a life of unconditional love together... My husband is not only in the midst of the biggest fight of his life... He is in the fight FOR his life <3 Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and God Bless :)
