BENEFITING: ARTPACE INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2012
In 2011, more than 18,500 people braved a welcomed rain shower on San Antonio’s Houston Street to convert a major artery of historic downtown into a colorful street showcase. Attendees of all ages were encouraged to join in a variety of free activities—engaging in hands-on projects with professional educators, collaborating on public murals, and participating as impromptu exhibitors. Chalk It Up’s continued growth since its humble beginnings in 2004 as a small community festival illustrates the great artistic wealth in our city and San Antonio’s commitment to fostering creativity. At its core, Chalk It Up plays a pivotal role in ensuring students continue to experience and explore the possibilities of art. Through participation in the festival’s street gallery and adjacent creation stations, children—who comprise an overwhelming majority of the audience—gain an invaluable opportunity to practice teamwork and sharpen critical thinking skills, proven outcomes of access to art education.
Planned for Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 10am to 4pm, Chalk It Up is entirely funded by Artpace’s generous donors like you!
