A year ago I was overweight at could barely run a mile. Today I weigh much much less and am training for the New York Marathon. I lost a significant amount of weight and wanted to find something to help me keep it off and that is how I found running. As mentioned, I couldn't run a mile and, frankly, never liked the sport. I made it my goal to run in a local 5k. It took a long time to reach that goal. Once achieved, I kept moving the goalpost. 5ks lead to 5mile races, 10ks and two half marathons.
I'm not sure what it was that sparked this off (my second daughter Christy - named after my mother was born a year ago...), but I want to keep it going.
When the New York Road Runners opend up application for this year's New York Marathon they gave a small group of people (first to sign up) the opportunity to get a bib and run for their own youth program charity.
