BENEFITING: Elizabethton Boys & Girls Club
What’s on your wish list this year?
For Jasmine, a ten year old Club member, it’s pretty simple. She told me, “I really want to learn to play the piano. My mom can play, and when she used to play at church, I would sit on her lap and put my hands on hers. It was like I was playing too.”
Jasmine has been coming to the Club with her sister for two years. She lives with their mom and five siblings in a small grey house with three bedrooms and a small front yard. Their life probably seems like someone you know from church or even from down the street, but I’m writing you today because kids like Jasmine desperately need you for the road ahead:
“My name is Jasmine and me and my sister come to the Club every day. This is our second year. I always have fun. When we’re at the Club, we eat breakfast and during the year we eat snack and dinner. We usually go with our age group. I’m a Bantam which is 9 and 10 year olds. My favorite staff is Mr. Gary. He’s just fun and really nice. If something comes up, I know I can always go to him or another staff that’s around because I trust them. There’s no one here that I don’t trust. My mom works til 5:30 or 6:00, and it’s really important she doesn’t miss work. She needs us to come so she can provide for us. If there weren’t a Club, I don’t know what we would do. I’m just thankful it’s here, and not just because it helps my mom, but because it’s an awesome place and there is so much stuff to do. I have friends here, and we get to do lots of fun things. But really it’s the staff. They are so kind and helpful, and I know they always have my back.”
Jasmine is smart. She’s funny. She has a great mom and a great school. What truly separates Jasmine from achieving a great future is YOU.
She needs you for a safe, positive place to go afterschool.
She needs you for trusting adults that she knows she can count on.
She needs you to help her with her homework and for programs that will help her to make smart life choices. She needs you to reach her full potential.
Think about it again: what’s on your wish list this year? Is it changing someone’s life?
You can do that today through a meaningful gift to your Club.
This holiday is crucial for Jasmine. At the Boys & Girls Club, we believe EVERY child deserves an opportunity to reach their full potential, and we know that our Clubs can help them get there. We only need YOU to make it happen.
The money we bring in today will take care of Jasmine in the year ahead. You can provide the staff that shows they care, the supplies that help Jasmine discover her future profession, you can provide the opportunities she needs to become the best Jasmine she can be. The question is: how do YOU want to help?
You have the opportunity to the change the future of your community. It's an impressive sum, but this holiday we want to raise $10,000. It will change the future of our community, and it will all start with one child and one gift.
I hope you will be the difference in Jasmine's life. Frederick Douglass taught us “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” Join me today in building the kids in Elizabethton & Carter County.
Participants in this year end of year campaign will receive special recognition from our Club members. Those making the following gifts will get something even more:
1) $500 : A special holiday thank you gift from a Club member.
2) $750 : A special holiday thank you gift from a Club member plus recognition on our website.
3) $1,000: A special thank you gift from a Club member, recognition on our website, and special holiday visit from Club members. (Details will be planned for mid December through the Club Development Office.)
