THE STORY:
DONATE OR VOLUNTEER
We need $6,438 to add 10 more homes to our cause.
In rural Western Minnesota in the sweet friendly counties of Clay, Wilkin, Becker, and Ottertail, Lakes and Prairies Community Action and Group Cares work together every other year to provide basic repairs and safety improvement in homes where residents are unable to accomplish the tasks on their own.
Repairs are provided to those in our communities who could not afford or could not physically complete expensive home projects on their own. Group Cares brings mission trip youth to the community to provide the manpower, and Community Action finds donations and grants for the materials to build ramps, paint homes to keep them from deteriorating, and fix safety hazards in the homes, but there is still a shortage of funds...and volunteers.
Community Action is also responsible for compiling a list of families and individuals in need. In 2013, Work Camp could meet the need of less than half of those on their list due to funding and volunteer needs. Our donation goal is to provide enough funds to provide home repairs and improvements to 10 more homes. That’s at least 10 more people and families. If you can’t donate or if you want to add to your donation, set your calendar for 2015 to help us with our next Group Work Camp. Even if we don’t meet our financial goal, we will always need more volunteers.
We know we can reach $6,438 this holiday season, and that is why we chose 10 more homes. We know you can help us get there.
By improving just 10 more homes, the community’s value would raise roughly $60,000 and also creates a more positive community environment. The youth also win when they work for Community Action and Group cares. This experience empowers youth volunteers since they learn hands on skills, they are exposed to diversity, they learn what it means to be involved in a community, and they create bonds with citizens they've never met before through the power of helping.
You can feel the power of helping too.
