BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
AinsleysAngels.org is thrilled to help ensure Mathew can soon roll with the wind in comfort in his customized Team HOYT racing chair!
With your generosity, we are certain this can happen soon! As the father of two very special girls that race together with me, I know that the positive energy surrounding the start line, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love we all have for each other is a therapy like no other.
A message from Mathew’s Mom:
Mathew Serafin is a 13 year old boy with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy caused by a developmental brain abnormality, epilepsy, and mental retardation. He is nonverbal and is unable to sit, stand or walk unsupported. Mathew has learned sign language to communicate and also uses an iPad. He is fed by a feeding tube. He attends a life skills class in the public school and has just completed 7th grade. Mathew has a smile that melts anyone's heart who comes in contact with him and has been a very good teacher to others. He has shown others that nothing stops him and he lives life to the fullest. He has the strongest determination and has taught us to live in the moment and not take anything for granted. He has had many surgeries and always comes through fighting strong. Mathew’s hero is his 16 year old brother. They have a very close bond. Mathew is very involved in the community. He plays adaptive baseball, soccer, and wheelchair basketball. He is also involved in an adaptive ice skating program and sailing program. Mathew participates in boy scouts with his brother and Dad. He is happiest when he is busy and always wants to be doing something. We want to get involved in a local program through MYAA called extra mile program. They have runners who want to push children who are unable to run. They provide strollers but they are too small for my son. I have also began running in 5K's and Mathew would love to participate with me. Mathew has always just wanted to do what any other child does and to be able to participate in anything he can. Some people look at him and feel sorry. He does not feel sorry for himself; he is the happiest boy and just wants to be included.
