Frequently Asked Questions
What is CrowdRise?
CrowdRise is the most innovative, modern crowdfunding platform for charitable causes. The American Red Cross, UNICEF, USO, March of Dimes, Clinton Global Initiative, as well as tens of thousands of smaller non-profits use CrowdRise for peer-to-peer fundraising, event and team fundraising, and creative fundraising campaigns. CrowdRise's core principles are that giving back should be fun, and that non-profits have unprecedented power to leverage their supporters’ capacity for good.
CrowdRise's custom-built platform, seamless integrations, and game theory, as well as the company's proven record of designing effective crowdfunding strategies has positioned itself as the dominant brand in social fundraising.
CrowdRise was founded by actor and activist, Edward Norton, producer and activist Shauna Robertson, and internet entrepreneurs Robert and Jeffrey Wolfe. CrowdRise was named a "Top 25 Global Philanthropist" by Barron's and a "Top Fundraising Website" by Mashable and Forbes. Besides that, CrowdRise isn't all that great.
How does my charity receive the funds?
CrowdRise makes it incredibly fast and easy for your charity to receive its funds. When a donor makes a donation, the funds will be processed by the payment processor that you chose, either Network for Good or WePay. Both are PCI Level 1, secure credit card processing services. WePay sends funds to charities in real time. Network for Good sends payments to charities on the 15th of each month that include all donations made in the previous month.
For example, donations processed in October will be paid on November 15th. You will have access to the CrowdRise Report Center where you can easily reconcile all of the money you receive and access all of the donation data in one place.
Are donations secure?
This will sound really official because we know how important it is. CrowdRise processes donations through Network for Good and WePay. You can choose which processor you want. Both payment processors are PCI Level 1 Compliant (that's the best) and both offer industry-leading Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. Network for Good is a donor advised fund, and a Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance accredited charity that meets all of the BBB standards for charity accountability. They have processed more than $1 billion in donations for over 50,000 charities through their giving system. WePay is based in Palo Alto, CA and processes transactions for over 250,000 merchants. WePay allows for daily, weekly, or monthly electronic transfers of funds.
How does the Pricing Guarantee work?
CrowdRise collects a platform fee (based on your plan) along with a credit card processing fee. Donors have the option to cover all the fees (including credit card fees) at checkout, and over 95% of donors do.
We guarantee your pricing never exceeds the plan you choose. That means if you choose the Tre plan, you will keep at least $97 of every $100 you raise. If you choose the free Fiver plan, you will keep at least $95 of every $100 you raise.
Right now, over 3,500 charities are on the CrowdRise Guaranteed Pricing and because so many donors choose to cover their fees, they are keeping an average of $98.40 of every $100 raised. That’s by far the lowest pricing in the entire crowdfunding world.
Here's how we make the guaranteed pricing work:
- The per transaction fee is 5.9% for the Tre ($50/month plan) and 6.8% for the Fiver (free plan) + credit card fees which are 2.9%+$0.30
- We give all your donors the option to cover the fees.
- If all your donors cover the fees, you’ll have cost-free fundraising. If your donors don’t cover the fees so that you’re getting $97 (for the Tre) or $95 (for the Fiver) out of every $100 raised, we’ll cut you a check for the difference.
- We exclude individual donations $1,000+ from the guarantee. So, if you raise $150,000 and have one $1,000 donation and one $2,000 donation, we run a report based on the remaining $147,000 and make sure that you get at least 97% of that $147,000.
