BENEFITING: Charities Challenge
EVENT DATE: Oct 26, 2014
I'm excited to share with you my newest adventure as an RxExercise Ambassador to the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon on October 26, 2014.
As you may already know, I have been very active with Charities Challenge (CC) for several years. CC is a non-profit organization, which has as its mission: To Improve Health/Fitness, Reduce Health Risks, and Enhance Disease Management via Goal-oriented RxExercise Training Programs, Engaging Events & Active Partnerships. Throughout the year CC produces about 20 RxExercise run/walk events in the Twin Cities, serving over 5,000 individuals and families with rewarding exercise experiences at which my wife Meredith and I have been leading volunteers and occasionally racing. I'm not sure the exact number of races that I've volunteered at but it's been well over 100 and I'm guessing getting close to 150 events.
What is so rewarding about CC’s leaders and volunteers is the effective encouragement and recognition they provide to so many others through special events and RxExercise programs. At events, from the first place finisher to the last walker, ages from 5-87, apparently healthy or health-challenged, we see all participants as winners because everyone is benefiting from their own RxExercise.
I have had my share of health issues to overcome, challenges like high blood pressure, obesity (lost 150 lbs), back surgery, and a pacemaker. The way heart disease runs in my family, I don't believe I would be alive today without Running RxExercise. The Marine Corps Marathon will be my 36th Marathon since losing over 100lbs in 2005. Running this year has been especially meaningful since spending a long 4th of July weekend in the Hospital with Deep Vein Thrombosis which closed off 4 or 5 of my veins due to blood clots. I'm very thankful it was caught and cleaned out before permanent damage was done. Right now I am on a blood thinner to keep my blood flowing smoothly. I'm very thankful to still be alive and that my Dr released me to continue to train for and run marathons with only a few weeks away from running. I am restricted from swimming and any form of weight lifting but my temporary running restriction was lifted. There are no triathlons are in my immediate future due to the swimming restriction. Both Meredith and I are now happier and healthier because of our Charities Challenge volunteering work and RxExercise.
This year I'm celebrating my 65th Birthday by doing what I'm calling my personal "Challenge Aging 65K" on September 24th . I'm challenging you to make a donation of any amount per K I run to encourage me in this Challenge. An example would be to donate $1 per 1K which would equal a donation of $65. You can use any amount you want smaller or larger that this, just do the math (X*65) = ?? Please post your pledge in the comments section and click on the donate button to donate by credit card or you could give/send me your check made out to "Charities Challenge" if you don't want to do the online credit card transaction.
Your tax-deductible donation to CC in my honor will help support CC’s RxExercise Mission/Events and Programs, programs like my RxExercise Ambassadorship. Please join my “CC Support Team” and consider a donation to Charities Challenge.
I encourage you to learn more about CC and RxExercise at www.CharitiesChallenge.org and better yet, come walk, run, or for even more fun, join us volunteering at any CC Event. For visual evidence of the Power of RxExercise to improve lives and relationships, view great slide shows with events' thematic music from the races on the CC web site where you'll see the "Miles of Smiles" that come upon everyone's faces as they run or walk a 5K. http://www.charitieschallenge.org/cceventphotos/2013 Charities Challenge Highlights - Miles of Smiles/1/med/CCSHARErunners.htm
I'm honored, and happier-healthier, to be a RxExercise Ambassador. Thanks in advance for whatever amount you contribute as part of my “CC Support Team”!
Because there is NO CURE for all the ills associated with lack of exercise…except RxExercise!
