ChariTree Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee Challenge

BENEFITING: EARTH DAY TEXAS INCORPORATED

EVENT DATE: Apr 26, 2014

THE STORY:

When’s the last time you climbed a tree? For many of us, it’s been awhile. And with the hustle and bustle of life in Dallas, we often forget just how important trees are to our community. They provide shade and recreation and help keep our environment clean and pristine.

Earth Day Texas is giving back to our green friends and taking fundraising to new heights with Charitree on April 26-27 at Fair Park.

To remind people of the fun and freedom of tree climbing, some of the participants will strap on a helmet and a harness and scale their way to the top of two historic live oak trees in Fair Park, starting Saturday, April 26. We are proud to announce the Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee (UFAC) as a participant in the 2014 Charitree Challenge! Founded in 2005 by the Dallas City Council, the UFAC has played an integral role in keeping Dallas green and conserving our trees.

“There is a great need for volunteers, neighborhood participation, and funding to help make Dallas a ‘green’ city of tree-lined street--with cleaner air and cooler summers for the benefit of all its citizens” said Larry Hochberg, Chairperson of the City of Dallas Urban Forest Advisory Committee. “Hopefully each of you will take the opportunity to participate in supporting this very vital and rewarding mission to help plant trees and educate our Dallas communities on the importance of the Urban Forest.”

Support UFAC climb to the top of Charitree!

1. Donate to our Crowdrise page. All funds will be donated to the Urban Forestry Advisory Committee of Dallas and the Texas Historic Tree Coalition.

  • $25 will provide life-sustaining water for a recently planted tree.
  • $100 will provide water-conserving material for a recently planted tree.
  • $500 will plant a tree.
  • $750 will plant and maintain a tree for three years.
  • $1,000 will provide research for Historic and Indian Marker Trees.
  • $5,000 will provide recognition and celebration of our Historic and Indian Marker Trees.

2. Climb a tree! Throughout Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at Fair Park, all Earth Day Texas attendees over the age of 6 can sign up to climb the very same trees used for Charitree. All climbers will receive a brief training from professionals with Tree Climbers International before hitting the bark.

Trees clean our air, water and soil. They add greatly to our health, sense of well being, the quality of our life and our economic future. A healthy urban forest equals a healthy community. Do your part to leave a better future for our children or no one will like you. 4 years ago
