BENEFITING: CHARITY CUP
Alma is a 26 year old female from the mountains of Honduras. She was born with no real issues and had a relatively normal, poor life in the mountains. Four years ago she started to develop symptoms that the doctors from the state hospital couldn't diagnose. Her feet were turning black, the tissue was necrotic and the doctors recommended amputation at the hip. Alma's father was not sure about this suggested treatment since there was no basis for what was happening. No one could answer his simple question, "Why?"
Despite the doctors recommendation and morbid diagnosis of Death within 8 days if the drastic measures were not taken immediately, Alma's father took her home by car to the closest city and then on horseback into the mountains from there. He began treating Alma's legs with natural medicines and by the grace of God, she has only lost the front part of her left foot and almost all of her right foot. It seems that these treatments have helped slow the progress of the necrosis yet it hasn't stopped completely. The situation is difficult and now the doctors who participate in the Good Samaritan Fund at the Hospital Evangelico in Siguatepeque, Honduras in partnership with the non-profit Hope to Walk have decided that she needs to have her legs amputated from above the knees due to a recent AngioCAT that was done pro-bono. After receiving medicines, the necrosis has slowed but the circulation in Alma's legs is not where it needs to be. More treatments will be needed and then with help from all of you, prosthetic legs could be molded for her. The Hospital Evanghelico has taken on this case and others are partnering to help with pain management and transportation, but all of these things cost money! This is where you can help and become a part of something much bigger than yourself!
The following are the needs for Alma's treatment for 1 year:
One year of medicines will cost around US$ 2,000.00
Physical Therapy for one year will cost US$ 1,000.00
Mobilization out of her town for one year US$ 1000.00
Prosthetic legs(both) US$ 6,000 (estimate)
One of the most amazing things about all of this is the attitude and spirit that sweet Alma has had during this entire process. In the morning after her surgery Alma was in great spirits, sharing that smile that never changes. She said “I’m ok, if this happened to me is because God has a plan for me, He know what is best and I know there is a purpose, and I’m ready to fulfill that purpose” Bless her heart and please help her keep that smile on her face.
