Hello Everyone,

I hope this finds you well. Mary and I would like to send out a longer update before the holidays, but we need your mailing address! Please fill out your mailing address below so that we can send you some love and cheer:

The last few months have been very busy and we continue to make progress in the recovery effort. I've made therapy into my full-time job for now, and am working hard at the gym, going for hikes, walking around town, and even doing a little yoga and swimming to mix things up. I've ditched the canes (except in extreme circumstances) and am able to walk on my own now for over a mile. Yesterday I took my longest walk yet—about 5 miles—and although I was pretty darn sore by the end of it, it was just about as exhilarating as a walk around town could be. We continue to feel very lucky and are grateful to be alive and have such good friends that care about us.

As mentioned, we would love to send out a longer update via mail and would appreciate it if you could fill out this quick form:

We promise not to send you more holiday coupons. Thanks again!

Dear Family and Friends, Th…
Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for giving to the Mobility for Shawn Maloney fund. It has made a profound and lasting impact on my life, and the lives of those I love.

In April, I had an accident, but it turns out that I had a whole community behind me. Over 600 people donated to this fund, and many more sent their love, prayers, and chocolate to our little room in rehab. Family spent nights in the hospital, friends flew across the country, and perfect strangers gave generously, all so that I could walk again.

Since leaving in-patient care on May 18th, I’ve made incredible progress in my recovery. Along the way I’ve relied heavily on new equipment, supplies, and therapy sessions, all paid for by the mobility fund. Having such support has allowed me to focus 100% of my energy on recovery, and today, I am taking steps thanks to all of you. I figured what better way to show my appreciation than to show you some progress. So I’ve written a blog post recapping my first three months of recovery (with videos!) here:

Through all of this, my girlfriend Mary has been the glue holding everything together. She brightened my spirits and made me believe that anything was possible. She spent every night in the hospital and handled all of the details necessary for me to return home. She encouraged me to keep drawing, to keep laughing, and to never lose sight of myself despite the injury. Most of all, she eliminated fear and gave me hope for a happy future together, no matter what happened. Spinal cord injuries always affect more than just one person. Thankfully, our classmates, teammates, neighbors and co-workers have all been there to help us both.

Over the past three months I’ve seen a lot of good in the world. Mary and I have hugged nurses, befriended therapists, and even celebrated her birthday (Star Wars themed, of course) with friends in rehab. My mom made meatballs for an entire hospital wing, and my dad laced up three pairs of sneakers before I could even stand. Brothers and sisters joked about the infamous “turtle shell” back-brace, and friends rushed to sit with me and play board games. I was on a first-name basis with the mailroom, and it felt good to know that an entire town was rooting for me.

Mary and I have no doubt that this amazing outpouring of love has contributed greatly to our success so far. Thank you again for sending positive thoughts our way as we continue to press onward.
