Charleston Fight for H.O.P.E. (Healing.Outreach.Prevention.Empowerment.) was formed in response to a void in the Greater-Charleston area. We are dedicated to ending all forms of sexual violence and to becoming the leading voice in South Carolina for meaningful change. With a strong network of volunteers and specialists, Charleston Fight for H.O.P.E. will help sexual violence survivors on their path to recovery through self-defense classes, emotional support, and educational programs. Charleston Fight for H.O.P.E. will also offer workshops and training seminars to educate the community about the sexual assault epidemic while providing citizens of the LowCountry with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves against sexual violence.
Charleston Fight for H.O.P.E. will help and support healing through our support groups, therapy and advocacy. Our support groups are intended to provide survivors with various types of help. The help may take form of providing and evaluating relevant information, relating personal experiences, listening to and accepting others’ experiences, providing understanding and establishing social support networks. This will be a safe place for all survivors to come when they are in need. Trained advocates will assist survivors through their healing process. They will accompany the survivor and support the survivor during any judicial process, therapy appointment, doctor’s appointment or anything else the survivor feels they need an advocate for. In addition, Charleston Fight for H.O.P.E. will engage therapists to help guide survivors through their healing process through on-site or off-site individualized and group therapy.
Our outreach and prevention programs will include public safety seminars, teen awareness seminars, college safety seminars, Krav Maga (self-defense) seminars and other hands-on workshops. Our outreach and prevention programs will be focused on educating our community about sexual violence and what they need to do and what they can do to help end this epidemic.
Our empowerment programs are centered on Krav Maga training (self-defense). Krav Maga is the official self-defense and fighting system of the Israeli defense forces and is favored by United States law enforcement agencies. Krav Maga emphasizes easy to learn techniques that have been battle tested in real, life-threatening confrontations. This program stresses fighting under worst-case conditions or from disadvantaged positions. The goal of this program is to not only help survivors feel like they can protect themselves but to feel empowered.
