BENEFITING: Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
ORGANIZER: Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
On April 18th, 2016 I will be running in my 3rd Boston Marathon. I ran my 1st Boston Marathon in 2014 in honor of those that lost their lives or were hurt in the 2013 Boston Marathon by an act of terrorism and hate. I was lucky to obtain a number through the Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center where I played lacrosse. It was an amazing and rewarding experience for me. In 2015 I was lucky and privileged to obtain a number from the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club (a non-profit organization) that has been an amazing part of my life since I was 6 years old and is an important part of the Charlestown community. I am a club kid through and through, from attending summer camp since the age of 6 until I became a teenager and attended teen camp, and then on to work as a Jr. camp counselor and moved up to an adult camp counselor my senior year of high school. The club has kept me grounded and focused. My senior year of high school I received the most prestigious award you can receive the "Youth of the Year" award which is given to a high school senior who has had a positive impact on the community and the Boys and Girls Club. I will be running for the club for the second year in a row and will be running in memory of Ryan "Duce" Morrissey another club kid whose life (17) was tragically taken by another act of violence. Ryan was shot while leaving a local convenience store on Wednesday November 5th, 2014 but sadly passed away from his injuries on Sunday November 9th, 2014. I had the privilege of watching Ryan grow into a young man who was loved by all and had the pleasure of working alongside Ryan at the club during summer camp. It is only right that I dedicate this run to someone who meant so much to his family, his friends, and all of Charlestown; this one is for you Ryan "Duce" Morrissey. Sis, Steven, Craig, Michaela, and all that knew and loved Ryan, it was an honor to run the 2015 Boston Marathon for Ryan "Duce"Morrissey and I am honored to be running for him again in 2016, he will never be forgotten.
Thank you Meaghan Doherty
