BENEFITING: Marathon Kids, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 12, 2012
Yes, it's true,On November 12 I am turning 50 this year. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do for 50, and in my continuing effort to help make this world a better place, I tossing a challenge out to you. Run or walk a 5K "with me" and help Marathon Kids at the same time. For those not clear on the metric system - 5K = 3.1 miles. I am asking friends, family, associates, and assorted fine folks, to donate a minimum of $10 to run with me.
Marathon Kids is a free, sixteen-year-old, incremental, school and community based fitness program. It is a six month endurance building running/walking, nutrition and schoolyard gardening program for K-5th graders and their families. There are Marathon Kids chapters in Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Los Angeles, Navajo Nation and Rio Grande Valley. Currently Marathon Kids has 350,000 K-5th Graders registered for the 2012-2013 school year. Your donation helps Marathon Kids offer their services for free.
I have worked with founder Kay Morris and Marathon Kids to establish a chapter in Chicago. These folks work hard, and fight the good fight against childhood obesity.
Don't have a 5K around November 12? I will help you map one. You will need to let me know when you are running and how you do, as I will be posting everyone's times.
So come and "join me" on my 50th birthday and help in the fight against childhood obesity. My 5K plan? I am planning on running in Wisconsin for my birthday!
