THE STORY:

K – 12 College Prep
Charlotte United Christian Academy (C.U.C.A.) was established in 2009 as a full-scale educational institution serving students from preschool through 12th grade. C.U.C.A. is a college preparatory school with an accelerated curriculum. All courses are taught at an advanced level with honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes so designated. In addition to the high academic requirements, all high school students are required to participate in community outreach and service projects to graduate.

ESE Program
The Exceptional Student Education program at C.U.C.A. served students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are taught using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Techniques. These techniques have been proven to be successful in treating children with language delays and other communication disorders. C.U.C.A. has modeled the structure of the services they provide based on the research by Dr. Deb Leach, who is on staff as a part-time ABA consultant. Students with varying disabilities including Autism are mainstreamed into the Regular Education classroom in order to receive the instruction they need to be successful. Each classroom is staffed with a Regular Education teacher, Special Education teacher and a Paraprofessional to better meet the needs of all students at C.U.C.A.

Request
C.U.C.A. is a growing institution that offers affordable education to all students while also providing majority of the services to its Special Education community. As every year goes by, like many other institutions, its needs grow as its student population grows. C.U.C.A.’s needs are based on acquiring additional funding for an increase in technology to be used in all classrooms to serve its special needs and accelerated student body. In addition, C.U.C.A. is constantly working on improving its student enrollment by offering financial assistance to low-income and middle-class families that need the tremendous amount of services and attention that C.U.C.A. offer.
