BENEFITING: Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE)
I am running the Richmond Half Marathon next Saturday, November 16. I have decided to use this opportunity to raise money for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE).
Epilepsy affects more people than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's combined, yet receives fewer federal dollars per patient than each of these diseases. About 30 percent of people who suffer from epilepsy, my daughter Virginia included, get no relief from the available medications or treatments. In 1998, frustrated with the lack of treatment options, a group of tenacious parents, including Susan Axelrod, started CURE.
November is Epilepsy Awareness Month so this is a great opportunity to honor Virginia, or anyone you know who is affected by this disease. If you are able, please consider sponsoring me as I chase down a cure.
