Cheers For Emma
Organized by: Stella Balzli
Most of you in Neshannock, PA and the surrounding area know or have heard of the remarkable, strong & courageous Emma! For those of you haven't, let me introduce you...Emma is a 17 year old 11th grader. Emma is battling a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). Her 42 week treatment regime including chemo, radiation, and possibly surgery to her forearm is due to be complete approximately half way thru her senior year of high school. Emma has the most positive outlook and is maintaining school, cheer and musical rehearsals! It is truly amazing...Even her own doctors don't know how she is doing it!!! Emma is a fighter. She is determined not to let cancer define her. She has handled the treatments, sickness and even hair loss with total optimism. I also want to introduce you to Melissa, Emma's Mother. Melissa is a fit, brave and strong (on the inside and out) woman. I believe a lot of Emma's characteristic's flow from her Mother. Melissa is a teacher...so when she is not taking care of her own family she is busy teaching and molding our children. Understandably, Melissa does have to take time away from work to be by Emma's side for her treatments and whenever else she is needed. Last, a brief note about myself. I love to run. One thing I love more than running, is running for a cause. Two years ago so many of you donated to my St. Jude Pittsburgh Marathon Run. Because of all of you, I raised just under $5,000 and came in 2nd Place for the highest Fundraiser. Pittsburgh was my most memorable run because of that. I haven't done another Charity Run since. It recently became very clear to me that the time has come to do another Fundraising Run. I have been accepted into the 2016 Boston Marathon but I am opting out. Instead I will Run the Pittsburgh 2016 Marathon and I am running it for Emma. Please Support this Run by Donating to Cheers For Emma and following me on race day! Emma gets 100% of the money raised! Thank you!!!
