Chess Empowerment Association
As a collaborative team of high school and college volunteers from Stratford Academy and Mercer University, we have established Chess Empowerment Association, a non-profit corporation with the mission to empower our players through the analytical game of chess and promote friendship and understanding across our community.
Over the past three years, our volunteer team has worked hard to establish and run chess programs throughout Middle Georgia. In our programs, we notice distinct trends throughout our students with a broad spectrum of backgrounds. In all of our K-12 players, chess sparks friendships, instills patience, and encourages strategic thinking. But more importantly, chess possesses the ability to bring players of all backgrounds together and break past boundaries. As a community, our students dedicate much time into improving their critical thinking and analysis skills, all while having a fun time over a board game.
In other cities throughout the US and throughout the world, education systems are also witnessing stark improvements in their students in areas such as focus, concentration, and depth of thought as a direct result of chess programs like our own.
We collaborate with a variety of nonprofit organizations and schools throughout our region including the following:
Sonny Carter Elementary School
First Presbyterian Day School
Academy for Classical Education
The Bibb County Mentor's Project ("dedicated to providing support for Bibb County Public Middle and High School students who need additional support outside their family, and to assist them in reaching their full academic, social, and personal potential")
Hephzibah Children's Home
Sacred Heart Catholic School
Georgia Industrial Children's Home (Twin Cedars Program)
Mount de Sales Academy
The Boys and Girls Club of Central Georgia (Warner Robins Unit)
The Freedom School (Program of the Children's Defense Fund).
We have also hosted two of Middle Georgia's first non-profit scholastic chess tournaments open to players from all different backgrounds in Macon and Warner Robins. Links to local news coverage are below:
Help us reach our fundraising goal to continue sparking friendships, teaching patience, and encouring strategic thinking throught our Middle Georgia community.
Our organization's email, which is managed by our volunteer team, is email@example.com, and our website is chessempowerment.org for further information.
