THE STORY:

Chicago Survivors is a program of the non-profit organization Chicago's Citizens for Change that provides a range of services for surviving family members of Chicago homicide victims. Program staff are dispatched to the homicide scene by the Chicago Police Department or referred to families by major hospital trauma centers. Chicago Survivors staff members work to ensure that families receive early crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and referral services from the moment of the death notification for a period of at least six months. Chicago Survivors also supports an ongoing, Community of Survivors as a means of peer support and as an avenue for constructive engagement in anti-violence efforts. I am running to support Chicago Survivors in their efforts to ensure that all family members of Chicago homicide victims receive compassionate supportive services that help them navigate the aftermath of violence and cope with their trauma and grief. http://www.chicagosurvivors.org/
