"It's not always necessary to be strong, but to feel strong." -John Krakauer, Into the Wild
Close friends and family are seeing this and pondering, "OUR Jennie??" My answer to you is, "Yes! YOUR Jennie!" Through times of sheer bliss to times of utter heartache, I've come to learn and examine the depths and the reach of my strength and abilities. In doing so, I've realized (not a second too soon), that I'm a heck of a lot stronger and a much scrappier fighter than I thought I could ever be! I've learned to survive, to fight (hard), to reconcile, to weep, to laugh, and most importantly to share love and gratitude to those who have touched my life.
It is to those people that I reach out again and ask you to support me in my journey as I rebuild and conquer my fears and relish in my strengths. On September 5th, my cousins (Julia C., Helen J., Linda J.) and I will join together to run at The Chicago Color Run Night as a team ("B'cuz Love") for two special causes and tributes.
As many of you know, we prematurely lost our cousin, Tommy Choi, in a car accident in 2007. A day doesn't pass that we don't love him and celebrate his memory and laughter. Together, the cousins run in his name and honor a life taken far too soon.
Additionally, many are aware that my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer while in the hospital recovering from her debilitating stroke years ago. While she was successfully treated, breast cancer and it's impending shadow continues to touch my life/our lives (as it has many of yours). We continue to cower at its indiscriminate reach, but together we want to unite to help fight the cause. For that reason, I personally will be "running" (yes me), for a special cause - Remember Betty.
Founded by Danny Wood of New Kids on the Block in memory of his beloved mother, Betty, who passed away from breast cancer in 1999, Remember Betty's mission is to help minimize the financial burden associated with breast cancer for patients & survivors so that they can focus on recovery & quality of life.
To all of my generous friends and family, if you are so inclined (as you have so many times in the past), I ask you to make a donation or gift (no amount is too small) to Remember Betty. Since this is my first event, I'd LOVE for you to be the wind beneath my wings (or the fire under my tush) and start the donation process to keep me motivated. It is my hope that it won't end with this one event. Any time you want to send me a gift, add it to this fund. It will be an ongoing tribute, and the cousins and I ("B'cuz Love" - part of Team Betty Chicago) shall run again (fingers crossed).
Thank you for all the love and support I've received when I needed it most. At the sake of being too greedy, I ask this one last solid of you...xoxo.
