Ariel Ellis wrote -Active Minds is a student-run organization that works to promote mental health awareness on our campus. We program, fundraise, hand out resources, and hold forums all in an effort to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues as well as suicide prevention. Because of all the hard work we have been doing on our campus at Chico State, our chapter has been chosen by the National Chapter to have the Send Silence Packing tour displayed on our college campus! Send Silence Packing is an exhibit of 1,100 backpacks representing the number of college student lives lost to suicide each year. By displaying backpacks with personal stories of loved ones that put a "face" to lives lost to suicide, Send Silence Packing carries the message that preventing suicide is not just about lowering statistics, but also about saving the lives of students, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters and friends across the nation. There is no doubt in my mind that this display will have a dramatic impact on our campus. We are on our way to having this event on our campus but we need a lot of help getting to our destination. You can help us make a difference and prevent suicide!
