BENEFITING: WAGGIN TRAIN RESCUE INC
Snow White was born with a heart defect called a patent ductus arteriosus, or PDA. This is a blood vessel that should have closed at birth but remained open and is causing her heart to be overworked. Her heart has become enlarged and her heart muscle has weakened. Her x-rays show mild changes to her lungs due to early congestive heart failure. Snow White's heart defect can be corrected with surgery, and this is the recommended treatment. Two options for surgery are available, a minimally invasive approach through a blood vessel in her leg or an open chest procedure. Surgery is recommended ASAP as this defect could progress to a point where surgery is no longer an option. Without surgery, Snow White will need to remain on heart medication for life and her lifespan will be significantly shortened.
