Dear friends and family,
I am in the process of preparing for the 2013 ING New York City Marathon! For the upcoming race, I have joined Crowdrise, which allows me to represent and support a cause close to my heart.
For more than 60 years, UNICEF has been the world's leading international children's organization, working in over 150 countries to address the ongoing issues that affect kids' survival. Every day, 21,000 children die from preventable causes, simply because they don't have access to clean water, immunizations, proper nutrition or protection during emergencies. Like UNICEF, I believe that number should be zero.
Running in the marathon provides me the opportunity to help by children in two ways: educating my friends and family about UNICEF's work and raise the vital funds needed. My goal is to raise at least $1000 for UNICEF.
* Did you know that with just 8 cents, UNICEF can provide a child with Oral Rehydration Salts to help combat dehydration? 8 cents!
* $236.23 can buy one school-in-a-box kit-a ready-made educational solution packed in a lockable metal box, containing equipment for 40 students such as pencils, erasers, exercise books, writing slates, scissors, and carrier bags.
I hope you will be just as inspired as I am and support me monetarily in this experience. You can find out more about Unicef via http://www.unicefusa.org
