We are a group of undergraduate students studying the causes and effects of child maltreatment and how we as individuals in the psychology field can assist in small interventions and preventative methods. Within the Champaign County community we work as Child Abuse Prevention Educators (CAPE) through the non-profit organization RACES. As volunteers, we work towards educating the youth (K-5th grade) by empowering each child to stand up for themselves when they feel endangered and inform them of their rights in terms of body safety. Our goal is to improve the lives of children who undergo maltreatment and offer them a safe space such as RACES to seek guidance. However, due to state budget cuts and a lack of a budget, our doors are in danger of closing. From this, we will be unable to enter schools in the Champaign-Urbana area and provide services that allow us to carry out RACES' mission of "ending sexual violence, a widespread form of oppression that primarily victimizes women and children". We ask that you donate today, a little goes a long way.
