BENEFITING: BALDWIN FAMILY VIOLENCE SHELTER
Children who suffer domestic violence struggle in school academically and socially; they are more likely to have behavioral problems, lower test scores, and even to earn lower wages as adults. In the U.S., ten to twenty percent of our children are victims. But studies show counseling can change those outcomes. When children know they are heard and loved, they are able to cope and succeed. The Lighthouse in Robertsdale, Alabama, provides this support for these vulnerable children, but with very few resources. We have the chance fulfill their wishlist of fifty books for a library to help expand and improve their children's counseling program. From classics like The Giving Tree to the more recent Do Unto Otters, this small library can make a big difference.
