BENEFITING: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation
ORGANIZER: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation
EVENT DATE: May 04, 2014
Thanks for checking out my page!
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has always had a special place in my heart. As a 2 year old child, I spilled boiling hot coffee over the lower half of my body. The 3rd degree burns that resulted were both extensive and severe.
Fortunately, my parents knew to take me to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and over the months that followed, the care I received from Children's Hospital led to my full recovery. This marathon will provide the opportunity to give back to the organization that has given me, and so many other families, critical, lifesaving medical care.
I have been an avid runner for many years, and completed my first official marathon in September. I am very excited to run yet another full marathon and I cannot imagine raising money for a better organization. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated!

The mission of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is to improve the health and well-being of all children through excellence in patient care, teaching and research.
The hospital serves a region of more than 5.3 million people, including urban, suburban and rural areas. Its centers of excellence draw patients from all over the world. Patients range primarily from birth to 18 years, and 41 percent are eligible for Medical Assistance. Children’s is the only pediatric hospital in a radius of 130 miles and has come to be solely responsible for the region’s general and subspecialty pediatric hospital care, a majority of the ambulatory subspecialty care, and a significant portion of the primary care, through its 33 affiliated suburban and rural private practice locations.
In its most recent fiscal year, patient care volume was more than 19,000 admissions and observations; 77,000 emergency visits; 22,000 surgeries; and 673,000 outpatient visits. The hospital provided $62 million in free and uncompensated care to children of the region in need.
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is the sole fund-raising arm of the hospital. The Foundation exists to provide financial support for the hospital’s mission. The funds raised help the hospital to seed research and maintain the momentum of discoveries; to supplement government funds for training the next generation of pediatricians; and to serve all the region’s children, even when their families cannot afford care. In Fiscal Year 2013, the Foundation provided $38 million in support to the hospital and gave more than 19,000 donors the opportunity to have an impact on the health of children locally and worldwide. Established in 2000, the Foundation manages assets totaling $217 million. The current staff complement is 30 fund-raisers and support staff. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and it is a public charity under sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Service Code.
