BENEFITING: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SANTA BARBARA INC
My goal is to raise $1000 by mid-May for the new Children's Library in Santa Barbara! Any amount you can spare would be appreciated.
I am an active member in the Junior League. The Junior League of Santa Barbara, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. This past season I have been actively involved with the Junior League's Impact Projects, which are fun, educational events held at the different library branches that include storytime for the children and related craft projects. It once again made me aware of how important books are for the youngest members of our community. I saw first hand at these events how much children love and need books. And I see it already in my own toddler - her eyes light up when she flips through her cardboard books learning new things every day.
The Junior League of Santa Barbara has chosen "Improving Youth Literacy" as its focus area. The League is currently partnering with the Santa Barbara Downtown Public Library and the Santa Barbara Public Schools on a variety of hands-on projects - one of them is the creation of a new and improved Children's Library.
The entire basement (6,000 sq ft) has been allocated to what will be the new children’s space, which is being designed to accommodate children ages 0-12. The project will include interior design, programming and volunteer coordination, as well as new elements for performing arts, crafts, and a computer center. An architect has been selected and design phase is well underway. With the help of your generous donation, we will be able to raise enough money to help create a fantastic new children’s area for the Downtown Santa Barbara Public Library, as well as implement new programming to enrich the lives of children in our area and to greatly improve our community.
