BENEFITING: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation
ORGANIZER: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation
To All Family & Friends:
I recently began a "self-improvement" journey. After several months, I have lost almost 25 lbs. & I am setting goals for myself along the way. I have participated in 3 5K races so far, including running the entire Pittsburgh Turkey Trot 5K!! My latest decision has led me to believe I am a bit crazy, as I have decided to participate in the Pittsburgh Half Marathon on May 5, 2013! Training for this will be tough and I am nervous, but I know I can do it.
While I will most certaintly not be crossing the finish line first, I have chosen to make the most of my 13.1 mile journey & "RUN FOR A REASON!"
Instead of running/walking this maration as an "individual" - I have decided to join a charity team and support an organization that is special to our family and to Hannah.
As many of you know, Hannah is profoundly deaf and wears Cochlear Implants. Hannah's journey has been long, but we've had wonderful help along the way. Hannah's Otolaryngologist, Dr. Chi, helps monitor Hannah's Implants. The entire Audiology Department makes her feel comfortable and they have been nothing but extraordinary. I feel strongly that Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is a worthy cause to support and I wish to repay the kindness they have shown Hannah and our family.
With all the numerous doctors and specialists Hannah has seen throughout her life due to her hearing loss, just the mention of going to the doctor results in instant tears. By far, the doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh have been the absolute best at making Hannah feel comfortable and easing her fears in a short amount of time. Hannah's appointments often take longer than expected because it is often difficult to convey to her what is about to happen. Children's Hospital's doctors and nurses always take Hannah's hearing loss into consideration and make sure to help her understand exactly what will take place during her appointment. Making Hannah laugh, giving her stickers, and giving extra "TLC" is something that, as her parent, I appreciate so very much.
*Children's is allowing runners to choose a specific hospital department that we would like our donations to be forwarded to. I have chosen the Audiology/Otolaryngology Department. So, the people who help Hannah will be helped DIRECTLY by the money I raise through the Marathon.
Please watch the video to the left to see all the great features that Children's Hospital offers it's patients and families.
If you wish, please support my new goal as I "RUN FOR A REASON" & try to raise $500 for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Every bit counts!!
Thank you so much for your support!!
Sarah (& Hannah!)
