We’re proud to introduce the 6 runners on our 2015 Miles & Memories Team! Please be sure to read through our team’s personal fundraising pages—we have an amazing group of people running for us this year.
The Children’s Room creates safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. We believe that grief is a natural and healthy response to death, everyone experiences grief in a unique way, and being with others who have experienced a death reduces isolation and can provide hope.
We rely on generous donations to keep our programs free of charge for grieving families. By helping our runners reach their fundraising goals, you’re providing support to families facing the devastating loss of a parent or child.
Our direct services for families and individuals include peer support groups (at our Arlington center and in locations throughout Greater Boston), Parenting While Grieving education series, Monthly Family Night arts-based program, teen programming, adult consultations, and information and referrals.
By participating in groups with others who know the sadness of losing a parent or sibling, children have the opportunity to express their feelings in a safe space and learn that they are not alone in their grief.
One eight-year-old girl who attended group at TCR shared, “I only talked about [my mom’s death] with my dad until we started going to The Children’s Room. It was easy to talk with the adults and kids who had been through the same thing as me… I started to feel better. It’s nice to not feel afraid anymore.”
We know that grief and loss can be difficult topics to address. Our training, education, and community outreach programs enable professionals to gain skills in providing caring and effective grief support to children and families.
Families are able to attend our programs free of charge. All of these services for grieving families wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of donors and volunteers and the efforts of our inspiring Marathon runners.
Thank you for supporting our 2015 Miles & Memories Marathon Team as they prepare to run 26.2 miles for grieving children, teens, and families!
