Hi there! If you have made your way to my fundraising page you may already know me and my story. But if not, then here is a little insight on why I am choosing to run the Boston Marathon with The Children's Room.
When I was 4, my dad died in a car accident. Being that young, I did not understand what was happening or why it was all happening. Every night after March 12, 2000 I was patiently waiting to get back to my nightly routine with my dad: go to bed (pretend to go to bed), sneak downstairs, grab a Trix yogurt from the fridge, and watch cooking shows with my dad. It was our nightly tradition, and I always thought he was the coolest for letting me stay up later past my bedtime.
I was introduced to The Children's Room 15 years ago. At the time to me it was just another place to go and play. But going through the program helped my sister, mom, and me cope with the loss.
The Children's Room was a safe spot for me when I was younger. In my class, I was the only one who only had one parent. It was weird for me, and I felt different from the other kids. It was especially awkward around Father's Day, when all of the other kids were making cards for their dads, I was just playing on the computer. But when I went to The Children's Room, I felt included.
As a previous attendee of The Children's Room, I know firsthand as to how important these programs are for young children and their families. The volunteers and social workers and the most compassionate people you will ever meet. I cannot imagine how different my life would be now if I hadn't have gone to The Children's Room when I was younger.
Though I have long aged out of the program, I am still supporting The Children's Room in any way possible. I have been running for the past six years, and it has always been my dream to run the Boston Marathon. When I heard that The Children's Room had a marathon team, I wanted to be a part of it from the very beginning. I am extremely grateful that I am one of the few chosen to represent The Children's Room in the 119th Boston Marathon. I am eternally grateful for all that the Children's Room has done for me, and this is my chance to give back.
The Children's Room provides its services free of cost for grieving families. During these difficult times, it is comforting to know that there are support systems available to help your family cope, and not cause further financial loss. I 100% back the mission of The Children's Room, and that is why I am asking for your support to help other young children have access to these services.
Any donation is much appreciated, and I am thanking you for your support on my journey to run the Boston Marathon!
Catch you at the finish line!
