SOBER SOLUTIONS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING wrote -Sober Solutions is pleased to announce our 2015 C.H.I.P’s. (Children of Incarcerated Parents) back to school event August 29th, 2015. Each year various organizations offer back packs and school supplies to assist low income children. While these events are important, our goal is to focus on the missing element, winter coats, school uniforms and shoes. Our event will offer back to school supplies and vouchers to children in Pierce County whose parents are Veterans and incarcerated. Washington State Department of Corrections and Girl Scouts of Western Washington recently hosted a camp for children whose parents are incarcerated. Of the 89 parents who sent in applications for their children, only 22 were able to attend due to illness or transportation issues. A large majority of these children live with an elderly caregiver. Our goal is to assist those individuals who are unable to attend the various back to school events. We focus on children of incarcerated Veterans because we recognize the struggle children face when one or sometimes both parents are absent. Sober Solutions provides housing and supportive services to adults in transition from incarceration. Often times, the supportive services include providing assistance to children. We understand the social stigma; emotional stress and other unrecognizable effects that can hinder a child’s learning. Our goal is to have a positive impact on child during a less than positive situation.
