Trauma informed care is a framework and practice to promote recovery through understanding and responding to the impacts of the child from all forms of trauma, and is part of a countywide initiative. We serve some of the most vulnerable and under-resourced populations within our clinic, and hear on a daily basis about the shocking amounts of abuse and trauma many of them have experienced.
We are committed to delivering trauma-informed care for all children, families and caregivers who have been affected by these experiences. We hope to achieve these goals throughout our division by improving the physical spaces in which we provide therapeutic interventions, and by providing more opportunities and resources for our under-resourced patient population.
We envision beautiful, warm, and fun waiting areas that children can look forward to playing in and delve into child-friendly activities, entertainment, and art projects. Children will be able to have a safe and engaging space in which to heal from their trauma and emotional pain, as well as develop stronger coping abilities to move forward with improved mental health and resiliency.
We hope that through this funding we can help our families feel heard, comfortable, and safe, and help these children just…“be children.”
