Laura was scared when she learned she was at risk for type 2 diabetes. She has two young children to live for and who she loves very much. She committed to the Change Your Lifestyle. Change Your Life. Diabetes Prevention Program, faithfully following the lessons each week. She changed her diet which includes veggie smoothies every morning. She also got active. She joined a Zumba class and a running program among other physical activities added to her daily routine. She is determined to be a positive example to her daughter and son. Her hard work paid off and she lost over 40 pounds. She’s feeling and looking good. Not even six months after she started Change Your Lifestyle. Change Your Life. her doctor informed her that she was no longer pre-diabetic. This is great news for Laura and her family!
Mike was challenged with regulating healthy food intake. Though he walked for at least 30-40 minutes daily, he did not lose weight because he often visited and enjoyed meals with his elderly parents (both diagnosed with diabetes) who did lots of frying and used high calorie condiments. In the past, this participant tried to speak with his parents about cooking healthier meals and they felt cooking healthier would mean sacrificing taste. After joining the Change Your Lifestyle. Change Your Life. Diabetes Prevention Program and sharing weekly stories with his parents, Mike noticed their shift toward healthier cooking and eating. Because they love him and to support his efforts, his parents now bake meats more often and often replace potato salad and macaroni and cheese with green beans, greens and salads resulting in meals with fewer fat grams. Mike now consistently averages a loss of 1 lb. per week and his parents are doing a better job of managing their own diabetes by selecting foods and condiments that are lower in fat. Donyale loves her family and friends. But she knows people who are living with diabetes or have died because of complications from diabetes. The weight that she gained over the last few years motivated her to join the Change Your Lifestyle. Change Your Life. Diabetes Prevention Program. So she was looking for a way to live a healthier life. She knew about eating a healthier way and exercising, so when she joined the class, she was looking to hear from others and get tips about how to be healthier. The stories that came up and the work sessions during each class have been helpful. For Donyale, having it as part of her daily routine and being able to attend sessions at work presented a perfect opportunity to change her health. NDPP has been very helpful and life changing.
Lifestyle Coaches are the heart of BWW's Change Your Lifestyle. Change Your Life. program which is a provider of the National Diabetes Prevention Program. Fear (or concern) can force you to make decisions about improving your health and quality of life. But love is what keeps you going when making a lifestyle change gets tough or you face obstacles and daily struggles. Love is what will see you through. Lifestyle Coaches remind you why you are making the effort, making the change. Love for your children, love for your family, your community and, most importantly, love for yourself. And Lifestyle Coaches show love for you - when they prepare for each class, when they stay on the phone talking you through a problem or even emailing you how they miss you in session.
