BENEFITING: Ronald McDonald House Charities Upper Midwest
EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2014
When our daughter was one week old, she was suspected to have had a birth-related seizure. While it turned out to be nothing serious, we spent two days in the NICU at the Children's Hospital, surrounded by babies who were holding on to life by the thinnest possible threads. Some of them had already been there for months and were still tiny and fragile, lying under heat lamps. Their parents had been by their sides the whole time, and the only respite they had was the Ronald McDonald House at the end of the hall. There they serve hot, home cooked meals every day, provide a pantry for people to make stuff for themselves, a lounging area with a TV and games, and beds more comfortable than the plastic couches in the NICU rooms for them to sleep on. They don't just cater to the parents of newborns; they are there to serve the families of all children in extended hospital care. While we didn't need to utilize their services, it was clear how incredibly important they were to those who did.
I would like to help RHC continue to help the families of hospitalized children, and I figured offering to shave my head if people donated to the cause might be a good way to do that. HOWEVER it seems that more people have said they'd rather pay to see me keep my hair!! So, here's the new deal: if I can raise $500 by Jan 1, 2014, I will put all donors' names into a hat. I'll even use a real hat! I'll draw a name and that person will get to choose what haircut I rock. I will even do that stupid Skrillex haircut if that's what they choose! EVERY person who donates will go into this lottery. Anyone who donates $25 will go in twice. I will put their name in an additional time for each $25 (i.e. $50 = 3 "entries"). If I make more than $500, I will draw a second name and that person will get to choose what color(s) I dye it. Any hair I cut off, should the lucky 'winner' choose for me to do so, will be donated to Children with Hair Loss Nonprofit.
This holiday season, as you sit in your home and cherish the time spent with family, please remember those who are sitting in a hospital by their child's side and donate what you can to help offer them a few creature comforts.

If you are concerned that this fundraiser and/or donations made to RMHC go to McDonald's, that is absolutely NOT true! In fact, quite the opposite. McDonald's is not supporting its own charity 'brand' as it should be (big surprise)! Please read the following articles for further information:
