Children are our greatest asset and most precious treasure (paraphrased from Christopher Dodd). We agree. This Halloween, we hope to enjoy our sweets while reminding our friends and family of the not-so-sweet reality that many children worldwide lack basic needs: water, shelter, vaccines. Our focus will be on the children currently affected by the ebola epidemic, in which families are being torn apart by disease.
For each precious child who comes to your door, consider there are hundreds who cannot leave their homes due to quarantine and scores who have lost at least one parent. Still others are sick and must be isolated from their families. Our hearts ache at the thought of these children, sick and alone, uncomprehending as to why their mothers can't hold them. We hope to raise money for an excellent charity to provide supplies and mental health services for these children. Won't you join us?
Additionally, as longtime UNICEF supporters, we will pledge the money collected in-person during their triple-match drive, so that your dollars have three times the impact.
Here are some numbers:
$1=40 days of clean water for a child
$10=vaccinations for 280 children
Thank you for considering a donation! And come visit us on 64th Street during the Tosa city trick-or-treat, Oct 26, 1-3 pm. We'll be collecting donations in person that day!
