First, thanks for taking the time to read this. If you don't know me, I'm a former Marine who's raising money for Team RWB by running in the Marine Corps Marathon. Let me give you a little back story. In 2000, I was a bored 20 year old doing poorly in college. As a kid I'd always dreamed of growing up to be a Marine. One day while procrastinating I meandered over to the United States Marine Corps' website and applied for information, intentionally leaving my phone number off because I didn't want to recieve a lot of phone calls from recruiters. That seemingly insignificant action led to one of the best decisions I ever made, because my recruiter just knocked on my door and a few months later I was standing on the yellow foot prints at MCRD San Diego. I was an Infantryman (0311) assigned to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines (2/2), and stationed in North Carolina at Camp LeJune. I deployed two times. First with the 24th MEU where 2/2 did boarder interdiction and peace keeping operations in Kosovo, security operations in Djibouti, trained in the United Arab Emirates, and then participated in the invasion of Iraq. My second deployment was straight back to Iraq, and in Anbar province. We mostly operated out of FOB St. Michael, in Mahmudiah, but we also participated in the first battle of Fallujah. Enough of the back story, now for why this whole thing is created. For a little over a year, I've been a member of a veterans organiztion who's goal is to empower veterans by helping them engage in sport with fellow vets, and to help the community to engage with veterans by the same means. They not only have groups of veterans running in the races, but they're constantly and consistantly organizing groups to voulenteer to help with the races themselves. I'm proud to be raising money on their behalf by participating in the 2016 Marine Corps Marathon!
