You may be wondering how two people who prior to signing up for this race have never ran farther than 13.1 miles signed up for an ultra marathon on the beach. That's a good question and there isn't a great answer to it.
So Chris signed up because I signed up for the Kill Cliff Destin Marathon. Then I signed up because he did. Pretty dumb, but that's how it happened.
Really, that is just part of the reason we are going to run in the Destin Beach Ultra this year. I have been a volunteer for the past three years for the race. It has been extremely motivating to be part of such a great event.
Prior to helping out with the race I knew nothing about the SOWF. After hearing personal stories from a beneficiary about the foundation it really motivated me to continue helping out with the race. Unfortunately I will be moving out of the area later this year and wanted to help out in a different way this year.
The SOWF is a fantastic charity that is there when the worst happens and stays with the family. They will even provide tutoring if needed. If you are like me when you donate to a charity you want to know that your donation is being used for its intended purpose and not for a CEOs crazy bonus. That is definitely the case with SOWF. Their track record speaks for itself.
