BENEFITING: THE TANZANIA SCHOOL FOUNDATION, INC.

EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2013

THE STORY:

Dear Friends,

What an exciting newsletter this is! I have so much to share with you including all our progress from the past year.  Our School is up and running and our students are learning leaps and bounds!

I am also excited to share with you our goals for the future. In the past year our little school in the village of Moivaro has made a great impact on our students. We have a waiting list of more than fifty -5 & 6 year olds.  With your support we can grow!

Over the next couple of years we look forward to being an academic center of excellence, one day educating over 200 of the poorest children  in the Arusha region of Tanzania and employing many more local staff. With this foundation set, we are looking ahead to the future as we continue to grow. With your help The School of St Nicholas will be able to enroll as many students as possible gain a FREE, high-quality education.

Over the past year I have spent more than half the year in Tanzania working, training and educating our local staff and students.  I have witnessed our local staff mature and make great progress in developing the skills needed to run both the academic and business areas of the School of St Nicholas with efficiency, creativity and passion. Our students arrived one year ago, having no idea what an A, B or C or 1, 2 ,3 was and now can count to 100, add and subtract make words with letters and speak English!  This was one of my original goals – to develop the capacity and professionalism of our local employees and educate bright and talented children who have no other access to education.

I am excited about our growth in the upcoming year; we are building three l classrooms and a volunteer/teacher house and we look forward to educating seventy five more students next year.  We not only provide a high quality education, we buy all uniforms, books, pencils, crayons, games, learning tools and we feed our children a nutritious meal every day.  As exciting as it is, it is also scares the heck out of me!   I need your support now more than ever.  Please help us continue what we began.  Three years ago, there were no educational institutions in this village, today the school of St. Nicholas provides a quality education for free...and there is hope for the future.

My life has taken a 180° turn over the past 3 years and I am embracing it with my whole heart.  It is not easy working in a developing country, challenges surround me, but I was taught perseverance, commitment and dedication in a former career and I will always carry that with me.  I hope that you will find it in your heart to help support our work in Tanzania.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” ~Harriet Tubman

Thank you for your amazing and ongoing support. I am truly grateful to all of you.

Hugs,
Christine Lott

Dear Ms. Lott, I'm so glad that you were my substitute teacher today. You are doing so many great things for the kids in Africa. I wish that every teacher in Stoughton cared as much about us, the students as you do. You are making the world a better place. I'm glad I had a chance to meet you. If you need any volunteers I will be happy to help. -Jacob Ben-David 4 years ago
