EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2011
After years of watching friends and family train for (and finish!) marathons, I've decided to give it a go for myself. I started running for exercise a couple of years ago, but never any long distances, so this is going to be quite a challenge. I started my training program in June, and so far, so good.
To help keep me motivated, I've decided to raise the stakes a bit, and I'm hoping to raise some money for an exceptional cause, the New York City Anti-Violence Project.
AVP is dedicated to eliminating hate violence, sexual assault, stalking, and domestic violence in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-affected communities through counseling, advocacy, organizing, and public education.
Tom (my fiancee) has been working with AVP for a number of years, and he currently sits on the board of directors. Through him, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the AVP board members and staff, and I am always amazed by their passion and dedication to their critical mission. You can read more about them at http://avp.org
Please consider a donation to AVP. It would mean a lot to me (and Tom) and it will help me finish those 26.2 miles in October!
