To All Whom This Letter Finds:
On May 17, 2012, I will be lacing up my gloves and stepping into a boxing ring to fight cancer as a participant in the Haymaker’s For Hope charity boxing event being held at the House of Blues on Lansdowne St in Boston. This fight will be my first (and last) foray into a boxing ring, but I am confident my training will prepare me well enough to make a good showing. All proceeds from the fight and the event will go to benefit The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund.
I am dedicating the fight and my fundraising efforts to my uncle, Neale. Neale has been fighting Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia for over 12 years now. He has endured almost countless chemotherapy treatments, blood transfusions, complications, and trying times, but through it all he has never lost his passion for life. Neale has been a mentor for me for 36 years… His accent and wit made me appreciate a good sense of humor; his love of (and excellence in) sport made me appreciate a contest, and his passion for all 5 of the ladies in his life (wife, Gail, and four daughters) made me appreciate what it means to be a good man. Training for this fight has been one of the hardest things I have ever tried to do, but knowing Neale is following my progress and may even be at the fight is all the inspiration I need.
Neale and so many others have been helped by the amazing team at The Dana-Farber Cancer institute and any donations you could spare to this cause are appreciate more than any words I could come up with in this letter.
Keep Your Hands Up!
