October 14, 2015
In December 2014, my wife Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. If there is a fortunate side to cancer, it is that the detection was very early and she required only surgery. Although her surgeries are nearly complete, the effect on her body and on our lives is permanent. Beyond the physical scars, over the course of these last 8 months we've met many other women who have also been stricken with breast cancer to varying degrees, and we know there are many more to come. Too many, in fact.
Sadly, Connecticut has the HIGHEST incidence of breast cancer in the United States. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it is fitting that in October in Connecticut, we should do something to change this statistic.
That's why when this opportunity came up to do something wild and raise some real money towards this cause, I had to "jump" at it. In many cases, these women's lives are on the line, so I will put mine on the line on October 16, 2015 and rappel down State House Square in Hartford as part of Rappel For The Cure.
Of course, that in and of itself doesn't do much. Thus it is my sincere hope that you will support me by supporting THEM. Please, contribute to my efforts to raise funds for Susan G Komen Connecticut in their search for a cure to breast cancer. Click the DONATE button, and give what you can, whether it's one dollar or one thousand. Together, every bit helps.
And by the way, as if you need more incentive, the more money I raise, the more PINK I will wear. My goal is $2000, at which point I will be dressed head-to-toe in pink. If I raise $1000, I will be in half pink and half black, and so on...
Please don't make me wear any black. It's just not my color ;-)
Rappel for the Cure, a partnership with Over the Edge, is Komen Connecticut’s newest FUNdraising event that is geared toward the fearless or those looking to overcome their fears.
