For the past year I've served "No Barriers Warriors" as an Expedition Leader. I take injured and disabled US military veterans on mountain climbing and river rafting trips around the country, and the world. These trips are designed to reintroduce veterans to themselves and their potential to continue living lives of purpose. These men and women are some of the strongest people I've ever met, but they are all dealing with grave difficulties due to their injuries--physical, emotional, or both. The mountains (with the help of some No Barriers expert facilitation) have the power to accelerate their healing. I've seen it happen every time I go into the backcountry with them. It's incredible.
This year, I'm leading trips to the mountains surrounding Leadville, Colorado and then to the Colorado River in Grand Canyon Nat'l Park, Arizona. (Find the video advertising this trip, on the left side of this screen) For these veterans, the trips are 100% free of charge. They need only bring a willingness to embrace adventure, and to try to live a "No Barriers life." The rest is up to us (you and me!)
