BENEFITING: PHILADELPHIA MULTIPLE MYELOMA NETWORKING GROUP
My friend, who was diagnosed with cancer the same time I was ten years ago, has been the cheerleader for multiple myeloma ever since her diagnosis. She would not let it pull her down even though it is a disease that kills 90% of those that are diagnosed with it within the first two years. She has been an inspirational speaker for others at the Cancer support group where we met, has been on the Oprah show after writing a letter about the person who inspires her, and simply has refused to give in to this disease that has taken the lives of countless others. Now, Myeloma is starting to get the better of my friend. She used to say, "I need to live until they find a cure for this cancer". Well, I feel it is up to me and those that love her to raise the money to get her that cure, especially since now her words to me are, "I'm living on borrowed time." She is fading because of the fatigue this disease causes (as well as other symptoms) and we are running out of time. Who knows how many more days her eleven-year- old son will have with his mother, who has only known his mother with the disease of cancer. Wouldn't it be great if her cancer could be cured and her son, Zach, could know what life is like with his mom and dad without cancer as an every day reminder in their lives? If we could reach our goal, that may be possible.
