The three main programs at Christian Neighbors are food, emergency financial assistance and education. Our food program helps approximately 225 households per month in the Plainwell and Otsego school districts. Families receive 3 meals per day for everyone in the household for 5 days. In 2015 we had 2,621 visits to our food pantry from those in need of food. The emergency financial program helps with utility and housing assistance. It is designed to help prevent homelessness in our communities as well as heat, water, etc. In 2015 we gave out nearly $200,000 in emergency assistance. The education program offers classes to clients to help them build better life skills to become more self-sufficient. Some of the topics are budgeting, credit repair, wants vs. need, etc. Our education department also helps create awareness in community about things such as hunger and homelessness.
