BENEFITING: WESTSIDE FAMILY CHURCH
EVENT DATE: Jun 21, 2013
Hi, my name is Christian Rule. I’m an 8th Grader at Monticello Trails Middle School. I recently started attending Westside Family Church last summer. I’ve really started to get more active in church and enjoy participating in youth activities. Westside has a great focus on youth activities and I’ve enjoyed connecting with kids my age during different events like the white out, youth bonfire, and the Super Bowl party. When I heard about the opportunity to volunteer in Haiti from June21 - 29th for church, I thought that sounded really cool and not just the fact that it was something different but because I could help those who are less privileged than I.
I learned that Haiti was once one of the wealthiest of the European colonies in the world. Now, Haiti is currently the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, ranking 204 out of 227 in the world with an estimated $1200 per/person annual income. In 2010 a large earthquake devastated the Port-au-Prince and Carrefour area where we’ll be spending the majority of our time assisting the Haitian people's physical and spiritual needs.
When I go to Haiti for eight days this summer, we’ll be involved with construction projects with others involved with our organization. We will share time in vacation bible school with the local children and playing sports together. I’m not totally sure what to expect, but I do hope that I can help anyone that needs support, and to come back with a little different view on the world. I’ve never been to any other countries but I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity of helping others in Haiti. I also see it as good way to show how much I truly care for others, and bring me closer to God.
I’m very happy that I have the opportunity to do something like this. The total amount that each one of us needs to raise is $1,500, and I would love it if you could help out in making a tax deductible contribution to assist me in going to Haiti to help others. Please fill out attached form and mail it back to the address listed, even if you are not able to donate I understand but please commit to praying for us. My teammates and I appreciate the encouragement as we take part in our experience. Thank you, and please spread the word about the Haiti trip to help me and my group.
You can also donate by making your tax-deductible check payable to the Westside Family Church. Designate Trip name ONLY in the memo line ("Haiti 2013 not "John Smith-Haiti")
Mail them in the enclosed envelope to:
