Why am I running? Why am I spending my free time fundraising?
In 2006, my close friend, Steve Lobdell lost his battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer at only 20 years old. At the time, I was 19, devastated and didn't know how to help. Now, years later I want to help his friends and family keep his memory alive, but also want to help those who are currently facing cancer.
Steve had a wonderful support system of friends and family, but I remember visiting him in the hospital and noticing how many kids and adults didn't have visitors and were facing cancer alone. This is what Imerman Angels helps to prevent- the organization helps ensure that no one has to face cancer alone by providing FREE 1-on-1 cancer support for cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. They match individuals with Mentor Angels that have been through the same thing, maybe even live in the same city, or are facing the same challenges.
I will be running the marathon and several other races again this year in order to keep Steve’s memory alive, and help others currently facing cancer. This year, I am honored to have been chosen to be on the Imerman Angels Professionals Board and could not be more excited to help such an incredible group of people help ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
