Thank you for helping me raise $10k in 10 days! #nextforautism #powerpedal
April 01, 2017
For the past 12 years, autism has been our "family business." Spencer lives it, but our whole family - Wesley, Craig, and I - is part of it as well. We each have a job to do in our "family business" to make sure that Spencer moves forward every day and that this cause moves forward every day.
We've been lucky - SO lucky - that we've had great resources to support us. But every road has bumps. A few years ago, our family turned in crisis to the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain (CADB) to help us through a difficult time. CADB is the brainchild of NEXT for Autism, an organization that has spent the last 14 years asking "What's Next?" for people on the spectrum. This year, I've been fortunate to join the board of NEXT for Autism and I am so proud to support its efforts now and in the future to help Spencer and other people like him on all ends of the autism spectrum.
Those of you who know me know that I eschew most physical activity, but in honor of NEXT for Autism and Autism Awareness Month, this April 30th I will be crawling to the virtual finish line at NEXT for Autism's PowerPedal for Autism event at SoulCycle on E. 63rd Street. Spencer, Wesley, Craig, and I would so much appreciate your support as I ride (with very little resistance) to support this event and cause which affects us every day.
Much love and thanks,
NEXT for Autism, formerly New York Collaborates for Autism, has spent nearly 15 years building innovative programs including the NYC Autism Charter School, the first charter school for children with autism in NY; the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain, a diagnostic, clinical and research facility with NY-Presbyterian Hospital, and soon NEXT for Neighbors, a community-living program for adults with autism, a fast-growing segment of the population.
