BENEFITING: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
EVENT DATE: Jun 21, 2014
EVENT DATE: JUNE 21, 2014 - JUNE 22, 2014
I have decided once again to run a half marathon to benefit the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp- a place that is very near and dear to me. In fact, it is the reason I became a pediatric oncology nurse practitioner! Let me tell you a little about camp...
HITWGC is amazing. It serves children with serious, chronic, and life threatening illnesses including cancer, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, HIV/AIDs, and metabolic diseases. Many of these kids spend more time in the hospital than at home, and more time socializing with nurses and doctors than kids their own ages. They are subjected to painful procedures and medicines that make them feel awful. Camp gives these kids a chance to feel like they are not alone. It allows them the opportunity to PLAY! It is healing not only for the child, but for the whole family. I could go on and on....but how about you let the kids tell you??
Working with many of these special kids on a day to day basis, I have a whole new understanding of the impact these 7 days at camp can have. At the hospital, we do our very best to heal little bodies. Camp heals the soul. And it fills my heart up every summer and gives me the energy I need to be my best at work.
I will run this race for my little warriors at CCMC and for all of the campers who so desperately need the spirit of camp. If this is a cause that speaks to you, please support me by donating. Thank you!
