EVENT DATE: MAY 14, 2017
This is our first Mother's Day together. We feel so lucky everyday that this little boy has been brought into our lives. He brings us so much joy and we just love him so much. Some of you may already know that Baby Corson spent some time in the care of the NICU at Rockyview Hospital when he came into the world and this Mother's Day, we have decided to participate in the Mother's Day Walk benefitting the NICU units here in Calgary as we will be forever grateful to them for giving our son such tremendous care and support to our family.
Baby Corson Lyle Smith joined our family on January 19, 2017 at Rockyview Hospital here in Calgary. Being our first child, both Cory and I were nervous for sure but we had taken the classes and were pretty sure we were ready for exactly what was going to happen at the hospital.....early labor at home...off to the hospital when it was time...a few pushes and that would be it right? Wrong. Almost nothing happened they way they talk about in prenatal classes.
We went to the hospital knowing that we were going to be induced into labor. After a very lengthy stay in triage we were finally transferred into labor and delivery to get the ball rolling. After a few hours of pushing, it was clear that Corson was going to need a little coaxing to come and meet us and it turned out, a little extra care once he arrrived. The NICU team arrived to the delivery room near the end of delivery and immediately took over Corson's care. It is heartwrenching to not be able to hold your chid after birth but I will be eternally grateful to the NICU staff for their tremendous support guiding Cory and myself through every step of the journey.
Corson was in the care of the Rockyview NICU for only two days and in those two emotional days, we got to know several of the fantastic doctors and nurses on staff who treated our son and ourselves with the highest level of care we could have ever hoped to have received. We are so thankful to each and every one of them and this Mother's Day we participate in the Mother's Day walk to express our gratitude and give back in hopes that other families are able to benefit from the hard work being done in these NICU units in the city.
Today we are blessed with a happy, healthy almost 4 month old who is growing like a weed, smiling every day. We know we would not have had this gift without the hardworking people of the NICU and are so thankful for them every single day
